NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is visiting Turkey on Friday (11 October 2019) to discuss preparations for the NATO leaders’ meeting in London this December, marking NATO’s 70th anniversary. In his meeting with Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Istanbul today, the Secretary General thanked Turkey for its commitment and many contributions to NATO.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg arrived in Athens on Thursday (10 October 2019) for talks with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President Prokopis Pavlopoulos. To honour fallen Greek soldiers, the Secretary General also laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller met with the European Commissioner for the Security Union, Sir Julian King, on Wednesday (9 October 2019) for talks on common security challenges.
A new coordination system to handle civil emergencies was successfully tested during an exercise in Montenegro, which wrapped up with the departure of the teams on Friday (4 October 2019). The four-day event was part of a multi-year project under NATO's Science for Peace and Security Programme.
